Introduction

We are not alone
Our bodies are ecosystems, alive with trillions of microbes—bacteria, fungi, archaea, and more. These tiny organisms live in our guts, on our skin, in our mouths, and virtually every other surface of our bodies. Together, they make up the microbiota, and their influence reaches far beyond what we ever imagined.

Modern science has finally begun to catch up with what nature always knew: when our microbiota are thriving, we thrive. When they are sick, so are we.

This is where Bacterinary begins.

Bacterinary is the emerging field of caring for microbiota as one would care for a pet or a garden—with attention, balance, and nourishment. It’s about shifting from eradication to collaboration. From sterilization to symbiosis.

In this book, you’ll learn:

How microbiota affect everything from digestion to depression

What foods and habits feed good bacteria (and which destroy them)

How hygiene and antibiotics affect microbial communities

What it means to be a Bacterinarian—and why we need millions more

This is not just science. It’s a shift in mindset. It’s a call to reconnect with the ancient intelligence that lives within us. And most importantly, it’s practical, actionable, and profoundly hopeful.

What is our job?
Bacterinary involves the identification, care, maintenance, and propagation of microbiota. We treat these microorganisms as vital companions, much like pets, ensuring they receive the right nutrition, hygiene, and environment. This means feeding them with proper nutrients, avoiding harmful substances, and maintaining balance. We also monitor their behavior—because when microbiota are unbalanced, they can disrupt bodily systems, weaken immunity, and negatively impact mental and physical health. Our role is to nurture them so they function optimally, keeping both us and our surroundings healthy.

Why we do it?
We practice Bacterinary because microbiota are essential to our health, environment, and overall well-being. These tiny organisms live with us, on us, and inside us—impacting everything from digestion to mental clarity. When properly cared for, they support a thriving, balanced system. When neglected, they can become harmful, leading to illness, fatigue, and systemic dysfunction. By understanding and managing our microbiota, we improve not just personal health but also the health of our families, pets, and daily environments.

Preface

This book represents the birth of a new way of thinking about health—not just human health, but the well-being of the microscopic world that makes our lives possible. For too long, the term “bacteria” has triggered fear, and the prevailing approach has been to eliminate them entirely. But as we now know, our survival depends on them.

Bacterimary is more than a concept; it’s a calling. It’s a commitment to treat the invisible world within and around us with care and intelligence. As Bacterinarians, we don’t just tolerate microbes—we partner with them. We feed them, we listen to them, and we help them thrive.

This book is the first of its kind. I wrote it not just to share knowledge, but to invite you into a community of forward-thinkers—those who understand that healing the world starts with understanding the smallest parts of it.

Welcome to the Bacterimary.— Roland D Parks

Who are We?

We are Bacterinarians—specialists dedicated to the well-being of microbiota. We recognize their importance in maintaining a healthy body and mind, and we take proactive steps to support them. Whether through diet, hygiene, or environmental adjustments, we ensure that these microscopic life forms thrive rather than turn against us. Our mission is to educate, guide, and promote practices that sustain micro
