Aging

There comes a season in life when the noise quiets down.

The career is behind you. The children are grown. The pension arrives. The calendar is no longer packed. And for the frst time in decades, you have something rare:
Time to think.
Time to experiment.
For generations, we were taught to look upward for guidance — to speak to something distant, invisible, beyond reach. For many, that brought comfort. For others, silence.
Today, I am proposing something radically simple.
What if, instead of speaking outward, you spoke inward?
Not to a mystical abstraction.
Not to the clouds.
But to the living community inside you — your microbiome.
Inside your gut, your organs, your brain, your skin. live trillions of microorganisms. Not poetic exaggeration, biological fact. They help digest your food, regulate inflammation, influence immunity, and communicate constantly with your nervous system through what science calls the gut–brain axis.

The “gut feeling” people talk about? It is not superstition. It is physiology.

When someone says, “I knew in my gut,” they are describing a real sensation.

When you feel a soft tickle, a settling warmth, a subtle shift in the abdomen when you are calm — that is not imagination. The body speaks.

What if you began to speak to them?

Not in fantasy. Not in delusion. But in deliberate internal dialogue.

You wake up and say, quietly:

“Let’s work together today.”

Before a decision:

“How do we feel about this?”

After a meal:

“Was that good for us?”

And then — you pause.

You notice. Perhaps there is a light flutter. Perhaps a smile out of nowhere. Perhaps a tightening. Perhaps ease.

That response is not a voice. It is sensation. A shift in tone. A change in breathing. A settling or an agitation.

The microbiome communicates chemically and neurologically.

It influences mood, appetite, even emotional tone. When you listen carefully, patterns begin to emerge.

Over time — days, weeks, — you start to recognize and understand the language.

You eat differently because your body responds differently.

You feel better, worry less, because your internal signals feel clearer.

You feel accompanied, not alone.

This is not about abandoning faith. It is about grounding it in biology.

Your microbes are not separate from you.

They are you. They make possible your capacity to think, to love, to feel hunger, to experience joy. Without the metabolic support of these organisms, the body would not function at all. Without function, there is no thought, no reflection, no spirituality.

So instead of speaking into the unknown, you can speak into the known — into the living system that sustains your consciousness and every breath and heartbeat, every emotion.

And here is the beauty:

it is free. No worshiping, no membership. No guru. No subscription. No app. Only attention to yourself.

You can participate and team up with the inner ecosystem that has quietly supported you since birth.

Try it for a moment. Speak inward, listen to the sensations that follow. Notice patterns.

Peace of mind often does not come from grand answers. It comes from awareness of the coherence — when what you feel and what you think begin to align.

If, after days of this practice, you feel steadier, calmer, more attuned to your own body — that is not superstition. That is a relationship you can lean on.

You are not alone inside yourself. You never were.
